The Lawilowan American Indian Festival Inc (LAIF) began in 2007. Additionally, Muddy Run Powwow was established in 2009.
These two Powwows occur in two different locations in south-central Pennsylvania. Firstly, the Laif Lawilowan American Indian Festival is in March at York College of Pennsylvania, Grumbacher Sports and Fitness Center, 899 S Richland Ave, York, PA 17403. In September, the Muddy Run Powwow is at the Steam-O-Rama grounds, 1673 Manor Road, Windsor, PA 17366. We want to introduce and educate the general public about the vast array of Native American Cultures. We have been very fortunate to have built excellent relationships with exceptional drummers/singers, dancers, artisans, flute players, and Masters of Ceremonies from across the United States. We rely on their shared knowledge of our Native American community to promote awareness and education of Native American Culture. We invite everyone to celebrate our living and evolving traditions.
Ultimately, we would like to find a permanent home somewhere in the York County area, where we could have our two Powwows and have a Cultural center to teach. We can only do this with your support and donations. Thank you very much.

Mission Statement
Lawilowan American Indian Festival Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving, sharing, and honoring Native American culture through authentic educational programming, powwows, music, dance, art, and community gatherings. Our mission is to create respectful spaces where Native people can share their traditions directly with the public, fostering understanding, cultural continuity, and community connection for present and future generations.
Background Statement
Lawilowan American Indian Festival Inc. (LAIF) was founded in 2007 to preserve, promote, and teach Native American culture through authentic community gatherings. In 2009, the Muddy Run Powwow was added, expanding our reach and strengthening our mission.
Each year, we host two Powwows in south-central Pennsylvania. The Lawilowan American Indian Festival is held each March at the Grumbacher Sports & Fitness Center at York College of Pennsylvania in York, PA. The Muddy Run Powwow takes place each September at the Steam-O-Rama grounds in Windsor, PA. Together, these events welcome thousands of attendees from Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
Our Powwows are vibrant cultural gatherings featuring Native American drumming, singing, dancing, traditional regalia, artisans, flute music, and educational opportunities for all ages. We are honored to host respected drum groups, dancers, artisans, and Masters of Ceremonies from across the United States who share their knowledge and traditions with the public.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, LAIF is dedicated to building understanding, unity, and cultural awareness within our community. Our long-term vision is to establish a permanent cultural center in York County where we can host our Powwows and provide year-round educational programming for future generations.
Through community support and partnerships, we continue to grow the circle and keep Native traditions strong and visible in our region.
Needs
Lawilowan American Indian Festival Inc. relies on community support to continue hosting two annual Powwows that preserve and teach Native American culture in south-central Pennsylvania. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are proud to be a fully volunteer-operated entity, ensuring your contributions directly benefit the community. Our primary needs include funding for facility rentals, insurance, drum groups, dancers, cultural educators, marketing, equipment, and event logistics.
We also seek sponsorship partnerships, volunteers, and in-kind donations to help offset operational costs and strengthen outreach efforts. Sustained financial support allows us to expand youth education, increase regional participation, and maintain affordable access for families.
Looking ahead, our greatest long-term need is securing a permanent cultural home in York County. A dedicated space would allow us to host Powwows, workshops, and educational programming year-round, ensuring Native culture remains visible, accessible, and thriving for future generations.
Continued community investment is essential to sustaining and growing this mission.
Each year, Lawilowan American Indian Festival Inc. launches community-driven campaigns that do more than raise funds — they strengthen the circle.
Through Give Local York, seasonal Powwow initiatives, and partnership efforts, supporters come together to protect and share living Native American traditions in south-central Pennsylvania.
As our events continue to grow, the need for greater community involvement grows as well. We are actively seeking more volunteers, sponsors, and donors to help expand cultural education, strengthen outreach, and move closer to our vision of a permanent cultural home in York County.
Every campaign is an opportunity to step forward, stand with us, and help ensure Native culture remains visible, vibrant, and strong for generations to come.
