The Alliance works in our community to improve water quality. One local tree planting at Northeastern School District ignited a student to think differently about their future.

WHO WE ARE

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay has united communities, companies, and conservationists since 1971 to improve our lands and waters by preventing pollution where it begins – on the land – before it reaches our rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.

WHAT WE DO

Agriculture: The Alliance supports farmers in implementing agricultural best management practices to restore the health of local rivers and streams.

Forests: The Alliance works collaboratively to improve forest health, create new forests and tree canopy, inform and support private woodland owners, and communicate to the public benefits provided by the woodlands and trees in our landscape.

Green Infrastructure: The Alliance reduces stormwater runoff by implementing conservation landscaping practices that improve water quality and support healthy landscapes throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Stewardship & Engagement: The Alliance engages communities, companies, and conservationists to build a more resilient landscape and foster a deeper commitment to improving our local lands and waters in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

OUR WORK IN YORK

  • Planted 23 total acres of forest in Manchester’s Northeastern School District alongside students, volunteers, and the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards of York County.

  • Helped 5 farmers in the Codorus watershed create conservation plans in collaboration with Weaver Environmental.

  • Planted “buffers” of trees and shrubs on farms to increase biodiversity and help filter dust and pollution.

  • Provide farmers with equipment they needed to adopt no-till practices.

  • Trained York City residents to lead successful trash cleanup events in their neighborhoods.

YOU CAN HELP

Restoring water quality is only possible together! Please make a gift today to help plant more trees, engage more communities, and create clean water for all from Codorus Creek to the Chesapeake Bay.
