For more than 55 years, Gaudenzia has been transforming lives through compassionate, evidence-based treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Founded in 1968, Gaudenzia has grown into one of the region's largest nonprofit providers of behavioral health services, serving nearly 20,000 individuals each year across 51 locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Our mission is to help people and families affected by substance use and mental health challenges achieve lasting recovery, healthier lives, and renewed hope. Through a full continuum of care, including withdrawal management, residential treatment, outpatient services, medication-assisted treatment, counseling, recovery support, and prevention programs, we meet people where they are and walk beside them throughout their recovery journey.
In Erie County, Gaudenzia is a trusted resource for individuals and families seeking a path to recovery. Through nine Erie-based locations, including Crossroads and Erie Outpatient, we provide life-changing treatment and recovery support for adults, adolescents, and families facing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Every donation made during Erie Gives helps ensure that no one is turned away from hope because of financial barriers. Mission
Gaudenzia’s mission is to promote long-term recovery by providing comprehensive treatment and support to people with substance use disorder, co-occurring mental health disorders, and related conditions, regardless of individual circumstances.
Background Statement
Gaudenzia was founded in 1968 by a conscientious group of community members who wanted to help themselves and each other overcome the challenges of drug and alcohol use. They soon learned that a collective group was much stronger than an individual, struggling alone.
Over the next 57 years, Gaudenzia began serving those in need of treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders, becoming one of the nation’s first providers with programs designed to meet the needs of individuals with substance use or co-occurring disorders, including those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS or under criminal justice involvement.
Today, Gaudenzia is one of the largest non-profit substance use and co-occurring disorders treatment providers in the northeast United States, serving Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and the Washington, D.C. areas.
