Mental Health America of York and Adams Counties offers two community-based programs. Our longest standing program is an organizational Representative Payee program (operating under Social Security Administration guidelines) which serves approximately 400 individuals each year who are struggling with mental illness or an intellectual/developmental disability. Our rep payees help clients establish a workable budget and help to ensure their rent, household, and personal expenses are accounted for. We also help our clients plan for the future with assistance with things like PA Able accounts and funeral trusts. The goal of our program is to create organization and consistency in a person's financial life as they work on healing and recovering. Our rep payee program has been in existence for over 25 years, serving York and Adams Counties, and now limited program services in Lancaster and Lebanon!

  • Last year, our Rep Payee program helped a client, Angie, recover almost $30k in back payments she was owed from Social Security. We were then able to help Angie set up savings funds!
  • We helped Josh, a former client, balance life and bills while he focused on recovering and becoming mentally well until he was ready to manage his own funds! Josh expressed gratitude for our help in keeping him financially secure while he focused on recovery, and he is now able to work full-time again

MHA's Consumer/Family Satisfaction Team (C/FST) is dedicated to assessing the quality of behavioral health services (funded by Medical Assistance dollars) through conducting interviews and discussions with over 300 mental health service recipients each year. C/FST provides systems advocacy within the public mental health service system by highlighting what services are strong as well as acknowledging areas for growth and improvement based upon the feedback the team gathers. C/FST staff also serve to assist individuals and families with finding additional community resources and supports they need. This program has been in existence since 2001.

The mission of MHA York & Adams is to promote mental wellness and support individuals' recovery through advocacy, education, social action, and provision of community-based services.
