For 20 years, the White Rose Leadership Institute, originally just the York Federal Fellows, has believed that strong communities begin with strong leaders.

Between nonprofit executives seeking to grow their leadership skills, to organizations working together to create bigger impact, to students discovering philanthropy for the first time - the White Rose Leadership Institute has invested in the people who make York County stronger.As we look towards the next 20 years, our focus remains clear: empower local leaders to build a stronger, more connected, and more generous community.

Yesterday

For two decades, the York Federal Fellows program has empowered local leaders to become even more purposeful, strategic, and effective in their work. Fellows receive financial support for professional development, participate in facilitated learning experiences, and build relationships with a cohort of fellow leaders who understand the opportunities and challenges of serving York County. But, this impact extends far beyond each class of Fellows. When we invest in a nonprofit leader, it’s more than just the person. We invest in the organization they lead, the people they serve, and the broader community they influence.

The next 20 years of York County’s nonprofit sector depends on leaders who are fully equipped to lead it forward.

Today

Leadership also means creating opportunities for people to work together toward something bigger than themselves. Give Local York brings together hundreds of local nonprofits, businesses, thousands of donors, volunteers, and community members for York County’s largest day of giving. Since its founding, GLY has helped generate tens of millions of dollars in unrestricted funding for local nonprofits while giving organizations the opportunity to build relationships, reach new supporters, and strengthen their fundraising. Give Local York demonstrates what happens when a community chooses to invest in its own people and organizations, celebrating what a community in action looks like.

The next 20 years of York County’s nonprofit sector depends on the resources available to help local nonprofits succeed.

Tomorrow

In the last year, we introduced Philanthropy in Education, bringing philanthropy and nonprofit engagement into local classrooms. Students learn about community needs, empathy, leadership, volunteerism, and the role they can play in creating positive change. Through classroom experiences, nonprofit speakers, Community Resource Fairs, and hands-on opportunities to connect with local organizations, students are discovering that philanthropy isn’t something they have to wait to participate in. They are already a part of this community, and they already have the power to make a difference.

The next 20 years of York County’s nonprofit sector depends on preparing the next generation today.

The next chapter of the White Rose Leadership Institute will be defined by the leaders we empower today.
