Bethany Christian Services and Safe Families for Children knows the best place for a child is with their family or extended family when it’s safe and appropriate. So when parents are facing a temporary crisis, we find families to care for their children while parents retain custody. This helps make it possible for parents to take essential steps toward stability to keep their family together.
Rooted in faith, Safe Families for Children reframes how families are supported when they face crises. Working together with local congregants, churches, area ministries, and various non-profit organizations, Safe Families provides friendship, coaching, resources, and short-term care for children through volunteer Host Families. This helps make it possible for parents in your community to take essential steps toward stability before their circumstances escalate to a point when Child Protective Services would need to intervene.
Celebrating 75 years, Bethany Christian Services (Bethany) is a nonprofit organization that demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by protecting children, empowering youth, and strengthening families through quality social services. At Bethany, we are motivated by our faith, support one another, champion justice, pursue excellence, and are in it for the long haul.
Established in 1984, Bethany of Central PA serves over 2,500 individuals annually. All services utilize trauma-informed approaches to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children and families in our community and include:
- Pregnancy Counseling (est. 1984) provides support, options counseling, and case management to those experiencing a crisis pregnancy.
- Domestic Infant Adoption (est. 1989) serves primarily families with infertility who choose to build their family through U.S. infant adoption.
- Foster Care Adoption (est. 1997) prepares and places foster children into permanent families, for those whom reunification is not an option.
- Post Permanency (est. 2009) supports families through the life-long journey of adoption. Services include family assessment, advocacy, support groups, education, and respite.
- Safe Families for Children™ (est. 2010) supports at-risk families and reduces child abuse and neglect through a network of volunteers motivated by compassion to keep children safe and families intact.
- Counseling (est. 2013) specializes in attachment and trauma related issues.
- Foster Care (est. 2014) provides loving, temporary care with the goal of reuniting children with their biological family.
- Equine Therapy (est. 2015) utilizes Trauma-Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. - - Refugee Services (est. 2016) provide resettlement and employment services that assist refugees in obtaining self-sufficiency and community integration as soon as possible after arrival.
- ReNew (est. 2019) provides specialized case management and reproductive health education to pregnant women with Substance Use Disorders in Lancaster County Prison, through the first year of their child’s life.
