  • Buy groceries or Pay the rent/mortgage?
  • Buy groceries or Pay for your car to be fixed so you can continue to get to work?
  • Buy groceries or Get your furnace repaired?
  • Buy groceries or Fill your gas tank so you can get to work?

No one should have to make these choices.  Yet in the past year, more than 280 different households have frequented Stewartstown Food Pantry because they were faced with decisions such as these.  The Stewartstown Food Pantry provides supplemental food to anyone experiencing food insecurity, so they don’t have to choose between food and other necessities.

We are a choice pantry.  Those in need enter the pantry and select food that they will use, in quantities based on their household size.  The pantry regularly stocks dairy products, frozen meats, fresh produce, and dry groceries such as cereals, pasta, and canned goods. We also offer personal and household items such as soap and laundry detergent when available.

Your financial contribution helps us continue to provide for our neighbors, so they don’t have to make difficult choices like those above.

From some of our beneficiaries:

“As a single mom, food from the Stewartstown Food Pantry helped me feed my 4 children a healthy diet while I earned my college degree.”

“Our house served us well for 27 years, but after my husband became disabled, all the responsibility fell on me,  the cost and the maintenance.  Saving money on groceries by coming to the food pantry helped us get by until we could downsize.  We sold our home and are moving into a trailer.  We will miss our big home, but it is what we have to do.  We greatly appreciate the assistance of the food pantry through this.” “Living on a fixed income presents many challenges in meeting expenses, especially in the present inflationary economy.  The Stewartstown Food Pantry provides me with the safety net that I have come to depend upon.  The contributions of those who contribute have been greatly appreciated.”“I got a turkey here for Christmas and I made that turkey for my family.  It was the best turkey I ever had.  I love you all!”

From some of our volunteers:

“I am here for most of our food distributions.  People who come here have diverse backgrounds, and I love talking with them.  We develop relationships.  I realize that we are all vulnerable.  An accident, illness, job loss, or economic shift can change a person’s situation in a hurry.  I am glad the pantry is here to provide a safety net and a sense of hope.”
