The Space Between: a documentary film to heal America

A nonprofit organization

America is fracturing before our eyes. Political division isn’t just an issue—it’s a full-blown crisis, tearing apart families, friendships, and the very fabric of our democracy. Today, Democrats and Republicans don’t merely disagree; they see each other as enemies. However, are we really divided as we seem?

Misinformation, hostility, and fear have replaced meaningful dialogue, and we’re rapidly losing the ability to disagree without argument. But, we still have much more in common than it seems. If we continue down this path, the foundation of our democracy—built on compromise and civil discourse—will collapse under the weight of our own division. That’s why The Space Between, a documentary four years in the making by political communications expert Emily Arndt, cannot wait. This film doesn’t just analyze the problem—it confronts it head-on through raw, unfiltered conversations with everyday Americans and groundbreaking insight from top experts in politics, media, and psychology. The film reveals what we must do together to save the great experiment that is the United States of America.

Since 2020, Emily has crisscrossed the East Coast, including York, PA, with a grassroots team of emerging filmmakers, capturing personal stories from people deeply affected by polarization. Their voices—paired with expert analysis from figures like political psychologist Lilliana Mason, media bias analyst Julie Mastrine, political scientist David Barker, and Congressional scholar James Wallner—expose the root causes of our national dysfunction: social media manipulation, legislative gridlock, tribal instincts, and deep-seated systemic inequities. The Space Between is a wake-up call that challenges us to question the narratives we’ve accepted, recognize our own roles in our fractured nation, and take steps toward healing before it’s too late. But awareness alone isn’t enough. This film must reach schools, town halls, and homes across the country. Your donation helps us finish the film and launch it as a nationwide movement—one that could be the first step in reclaiming the civil discourse that holds our democracy together.
