YWCA Hanover YWCA Hanover is a nonprofit organization with a rich history of 100+ years of service in Hanover. Hanover has changed a great deal since our inception, and the programs and services we offer are in response to our community's current and projected needs.
We are a service provider and advocate for peace, justice, freedom, and dignity. The YWCA also partners with other nonprofits, lawmakers, police departments, local school districts, service organizations, businesses, and neighbors.
Most of all, we are our mission. Every day, we work and strive to meet the tenets of the mission: Eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
YWCA Hanover's Safe Home YWCA Hanover's Safe Home helps thousands of victims and their families annually. It protects them from further abuse and literally saves lives. Your donation will ensure our ability to provide services 24/7 as well as enhance our reach into the community to educate and raise awareness about domestic violence. Your support will assist in creating a healthy community.
Mary endured abuse from her husband for years. It wasn't until he started becoming aggressive with their 3-year-old daughter that Mary knew she had to leave. She was financially dependent on him...that's how he wanted it to be. She had no place to live, little clothing, and a small income from a part-time job. When she arrived at Safe Home, not only was she able to receive safe temporary housing, Mary and her daughter also received accompaniment to the Court House to get a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order against her abuser. After feeling safe in a new home, she asked her employer for more hours and became a full-time employee with benefits. Safe Home was with her through her transition to a healthy life and continued supporting her with free counseling services for her and her child. Food was provided and gas cards when needed. Mary and her daughter now enjoy a peaceful and healthy life together.
