Our Story

"...from the darkness of despair, to the first light of hope."

Welcome to Colonial House Inc!

Colonial House, Inc. was founded in 1969 near Pleasant Acres by York locals who felt there was a need for a halfway house for men struggling with substance use disorder.  At a time when there was a strong stigma against addiction, Colonial House prevailed over the years and has become known as a safe and nurturing rehabilitation treatment facility for many.

Colonial House has expanded from its original roots to grow into two independent and local facilities:  an administrative facility and 45 bed male rehabilitation facility at 1300 Woodberry Road in West Manchester Township and an outpatient facility conveniently located at York City Square, 1 E Market Street, 2nd fl.

At the inpatient level, we provide habilitative inpatient residential treatment to males struggling with substance use disorder.  Most of our clients utilize medical assistance or county funding to cover the cost of their treatment. Typically their lives have been greatly impacted by their substance use, leaving them with very few and limited resources.  The outpatient facility offers individual and group treatment services for the same population. Colonial House is a safe haven and a caring foundation for many of those who are starting over.

The clients that we serve are in great need for clothing, shoes, toiletries, medications, recreational activities, art supplies, and other items.  Your generosity will directly make a difference in how we are able to continue to provide services to those in need.  Not only will you contribute to purchasing needed items, but your contribution may also help to offset the cost of treatment/services for those with limited resources.

100% of donations received through GiveLocal York will directly benefit our clients!

This year, Colonial House, Inc. lost a member of our clinical staff who could easily be referred to as the face of Colonial House.  He was an integral part of the Colonial House family who touched many lives throughout his career.  His passion for supporting individuals on their recovery journey will continue to live on through the halls of Colonial House.  This year, we ask that you consider making a donation to Colonial House in the memory of Mark Nixon.

Be part of an agency who is transforming, growing, and deeply committed for over 50 years to serving those with substance use disorder.  We thank you in advance for your generosity!  Feel free to reach out for more information.
