A Voice For The Voiceless

The community directs our mission.

The Movement serves hundreds of individuals each week who are in desperate need of resources from multiple avenues; The Food Pantry, Facebook Group and our Soup Kitchen.

The Food Pantry

Our approach to food and goods distribution empowers individuals to gain access to the resources they need through a trauma-informed approach. Every week we haul in over 10,000 lbs of food to fill our Food Pantry with meats, drinks, grains, snacks and fresh produce. Currently, every week we are helping to feed over 450 individuals, with numbers increasing every season, especially in the summer. We are the only Pantry in York that offers unrestricted access to food to any individual who is in need without any requirements other than being in need.

The Soup Kitchen

In 2023, in partnership with S&R Soup Ministry, we were able to open our weekly Soup Kitchen at Bethel Commandment Church. Located at 1000 S Queen Street, we prepare tasty, yet nutritious, hot meals that are free to the public. We believe everyone deserves home cooked meals that feed the soul and their stomachs.

The Facebook Group

From baby clothes to food, multiple posts each day are either giving people the opportunity to give back to the community or guiding them to aid when they fall on hard times. Some of our most popular items being searched for and given out include baby items (diapers, clothes, car seats), employment resources (job opportunities, steel toed shoes, business clothes), and household items (beds, couches, and clothes). Our Facebook group of more than 18,000 individuals provides a platform to share information and help one another. Check it out here!

History

While many nonprofits in the City of York are working to earn the trust of the community, The Movement was born out of the community and trust is inherent within. Founded in 2015, The Movement of York helps connect people to the resources they seek. The Movement began as a podcast and later started to go live on front porches, talking to people in the neighborhood and local artists about their hardships. It takes a village for such a community-driven concept to thrive. In the eyes of The Movement, the community has a way of making known the issues and hardships burdening it.

Who We Are

Is to change York for the better through collective and individual action, one person and one cause as a time.

we seek to bring down racial and ethnic barriers as well as class barriers to full community participation. We seek to promote free and equal exchange throughout the community on social issues involving children, the homeless, our elders, and other vulnerable groups, and to find workable, practical solutions for groups and individuals. We are moving towards a rich and diverse but united community free from violence.

THE MOVEMENT aims to assist both the city and surrounding county in moving forward towards a brighter and more peaceful, united tomorrow.

Some of our practical steps include community meetings, meetings with city and county officials voicing concerns and identifying steps for change, and not a political organization and do not endorse any political party, but strongly advocate positive change through understanding the power of the vote at the local level.
