Join the Pawn Storm: Small gifts, BIG impact!

York Chess Club has a bold move for 2026: We are seeking 2,000 community members to give just $10 each.

York Chess Club will use that $20,000 to host free and low-cost chess events in York County for players of all ages; and to seed chess clubs and teams in schools, homeschool groups, and youth centers across York County with $500 mini-grants.

Why $10 Matters

Pawns are the least-valuable pieces on the chessboard, but working together the can become an unstoppable force! And if a pawn reaches the far end of the board, it can transform into the most powerful piece! Your $10 gift works the same way:

  • The Stretch Effect: Because of the Give Local York Stretch Pool, each unique donor earns us a slice of bonus funds, regardless of donation size.

  • Expanding our reach: Every new donor represents a new person aware of our programs, a new family joined to our network, a new advocate for youth chess in York County.

What does a $500 Mini-Grant provide?

  • 8 Tournament Sets

  • 4 High-Quality Digital Chess Clocks

  • 4 U.S. Chess Memberships & Entries for local tournaments

The more money we raise, the better deals we can get on equipment and memberships, allowing us to support more programs!

More than a game

Your support buys more than plastic pieces and vinyl boards. You are investing in the next generation of York County leaders. Chess teaches important skills like strategy, patience, and how to measure risk. Chess is popular all around the globe, so learning how to play opens up a world of opportunities to make new friends and network professionally.

York Chess Club makes an effort to make all players feels like they belong to something bigger During a fundraising tournament last year, we included a special section for kids who had never played in a chess tournament before. There was no fee to play and each player was gifted with their own chess set, a chess book, and a pizza party.

When you donate, you aren't just funding a hobby; you are helping create a hub for connection, critical thinking, and community.

The Goal: $20,000

The Strategy: 2,000 Donors giving $10

The Move: Mark your calendars and join the Pawn Storm! Give Local York's 24 hours of giving starts 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30 and ends at 6:59 Friday, May 1.
